VEHICLE & PLANT SAFETY POLICY

1. Statement of Intent
Fixiz Ltd is committed to ensuring the safe operation of all vehicles and plant equipment used in connection with our business activities. We recognise that vehicles and plant are among the most significant causes of serious injury and fatality in the construction industry, and we will take all reasonably practicable steps to manage these risks effectively.
This policy applies to all company-owned, leased, hired, and personally-owned vehicles and plant used for business purposes, and to all employees, subcontractors, and operators who use or work near such equipment.
2. Scope
This policy covers:
- Company cars, vans, and HGVs
- Mobile plant including telehandlers, excavators, dumpers, and access platforms
- Towed equipment and trailers
- Any vehicle used for the transport of materials, equipment, or personnel on behalf of Fixiz Ltd
3. Competence and Authorisation
Fixiz Ltd will ensure that:
- Only competent, trained, and authorised persons operate vehicles or plant
- Operators hold the appropriate driving licence or certification (e.g., CPCS, NPORS) for the equipment they operate
- Operator competency records are maintained and reviewed
- No person operates plant or vehicles under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or prescribed medication that impairs judgment
4. Inspection and Maintenance
All vehicles and plant must:
- Be subject to pre-use daily checks by the operator
- Undergo regular planned maintenance in accordance with manufacturer requirements
- Have defects reported immediately and the equipment taken out of service until repaired
- Be subject to statutory inspection where required (e.g., LOLER thorough examinations for lifting equipment)
- Carry current MOT, road tax, and insurance documentation (where applicable)
5. Safe Operation on Site
When operating vehicles or plant on site, operators must:
- Follow all site traffic management plans and speed limits
- Ensure clear communications with banks-persons or signallers when manoeuvring in restricted areas
- Never carry unauthorised passengers
- Maintain clear visibility and use reversing cameras or alarms where fitted
- Ensure the work area is clear of pedestrians before moving
- Secure loads properly before travel to prevent spillage or movement
6. Traffic Management
On project sites, Fixiz Ltd will:
- Assess and control risks from vehicle and pedestrian interaction through a site traffic management plan
- Segregate vehicle and pedestrian routes wherever possible
- Designate loading and parking areas to prevent uncontrolled vehicle movements
- Ensure site access and egress is safe and well-defined
7. Drivers and Road Safety
Employees driving on the road for work purposes must:
- Hold a valid driving licence appropriate for the vehicle being driven
- Comply with all relevant road traffic legislation including speed limits and mobile phone restrictions
- Report any accidents, incidents, or traffic offences to management promptly
- Not use a handheld mobile phone while driving
- Report immediately if their driving licence becomes invalid for any reason
8. Responsibilities
8.1 Director
- Take overall responsibility for vehicle and plant safety compliance
- Ensure adequate resources are provided for maintenance, inspection, and training
8.2 Managers and Supervisors
- Ensure operators are competent and authorised before using vehicles or plant
- Implement traffic management controls on sites
- Investigate and report vehicle or plant-related incidents
8.3 Operators and Drivers
- Conduct pre-use checks and report defects immediately
- Operate equipment safely and in accordance with this policy and site rules
- Never operate equipment they are not trained and authorised to use
9. Accident and Incident Reporting
All vehicle and plant-related accidents, incidents, and near-misses must be reported to management immediately. Incidents will be investigated to identify root causes and prevent recurrence. Reportable incidents will be notified to the relevant authority in accordance with RIDDOR 2013.

11. Review
This policy will be reviewed annually or following any vehicle or plant-related incident, significant near-miss, or change in relevant legislation.
