MENTAL HEALTH & WELLBEING POLICY

1. Statement of Intent

Fixiz Ltd is committed to the mental health and wellbeing of all employees, subcontractors, and those working on our behalf. We recognise that good mental health is just as important as physical health, and we understand that the construction industry can present particular pressures and challenges.

We will take active steps to promote positive mental health, prevent work-related stress, and support individuals who are experiencing mental health difficulties.

2. Our Commitments

Fixiz Ltd will:

  • Create a working environment where mental health can be openly discussed without stigma
  • Take reasonable steps to promote positive mental wellbeing across the organisation
  • Support employees experiencing mental health difficulties, including facilitating a return to work after absence
  • Provide managers with the tools to support their team’s mental health
  • Address work-related causes of mental ill-health such as excessive workload, harassment, and poor communication
  • Comply with all relevant legislation including the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and the Equality Act 2010

3. Recognising the Signs

Managers and employees should be aware of signs that may indicate someone is struggling with their mental health, including:

  • Changes in mood, behaviour, or performance
  • Increased absence or lateness
  • Withdrawal from colleagues or activities
  • Expressions of hopelessness or excessive worry
  • Difficulty concentrating or making decisions

If you are concerned about a colleague, speak to them privately, with care and without judgement.

4. Support Available

Employees experiencing mental health difficulties are encouraged to:

  • Speak to their line manager in confidence
  • Contact their GP or seek professional support
  • Access free resources such as Mind (www.mind.org.uk), Samaritans (116 123), or NHS mental health services

Fixiz Ltd will treat all disclosures in strict confidence, in accordance with our data protection obligations.

5. Managing Stress at Work

Fixiz Ltd recognises that work-related stress is a health and safety issue. We will:

  • Carry out risk assessments for work-related stress where required
  • Take reasonable steps to reduce identified causes of stress
  • Ensure workloads are manageable and deadlines realistic
  • Encourage open communication between employees and management
  • Provide regular breaks and a supportive working environment

6. Responsibilities

6.1 Director

  • Champion mental health and wellbeing across the organisation
  • Ensure this policy is communicated and implemented effectively
  • Model positive behaviours in relation to mental health

6.2 Managers and Supervisors

  • Be approachable and create a safe space for employees to discuss concerns
  • Take reasonable steps to address work-related causes of mental ill-health
  • Refer employees to appropriate support when needed
  • Manage performance fairly and sensitively

6.3 Employees

  • Take reasonable care of their own mental health and wellbeing
  • Raise concerns about their own or a colleague’s mental health at the earliest opportunity
  • Treat all colleagues with respect and dignity

7. Confidentiality and Non-Discrimination

All information relating to an employee’s mental health will be treated as confidential. Fixiz Ltd will not discriminate against any employee on the grounds of mental health conditions. Where a mental health condition constitutes a disability under the Equality Act 2010, reasonable adjustments will be considered.

9. Review

This policy will be reviewed annually or following any significant incident involving employee wellbeing, or change in relevant legislation.

NOTE: This policy should be read alongside the company’s Health & Safety Policy and Lone Working Policy. All employees are encouraged to seek help early and speak openly about their wellbeing.
