1. Statement of Intent
Fixiz Ltd recognises that lone working presents specific risks that require appropriate management. We are committed to ensuring the health, safety, and welfare of all employees, subcontractors, and operatives who work alone as part of their duties.
This policy applies to all Fixiz Ltd personnel who work alone, whether in customers’ properties, on external sites, or in any other location away from colleagues and direct supervision.
2. Definition of Lone Working
Lone working occurs when an individual works without direct supervision or close proximity to colleagues. This includes:
- Working alone in a customer’s home or property
- Working on a site alone before or after others have left
- Travelling alone in a company or personal vehicle for work purposes
- Working alone in the office outside normal working hours
3. Risk Assessment
Before any lone working takes place, a suitable and sufficient risk assessment must be completed that considers:

- The individual’s competence, training, and experience
- The location and environment
- The potential for emergency situations (medical, accident, violence)
- Communication options available at the location
High-risk tasks must not be carried out alone. Examples include work at height without appropriate equipment, live electrical work, and confined space entry.
4. Communication and Check-In Procedures
All lone workers must:
- Inform their line manager or designated contact of their location and expected duration of work before beginning
- Carry a fully charged mobile phone at all times
- Check in with their manager or designated contact at agreed intervals
- Report their return or completion of work promptly
Managers must establish a check-in schedule appropriate to the risk level of the task and location.
5. Emergency Procedures
If a lone worker fails to check in at the agreed time, the following escalation procedure applies:
- Attempt to contact the lone worker by phone
- If no response within 15 minutes, contact the last known location
- If still no contact, inform emergency services if there is genuine concern for safety
All lone workers must be aware of emergency procedures, including the location of the nearest emergency services and first aid provisions.
