FIRE SAFETY POLICY

1. Statement of Intent

Fixiz Ltd is committed to preventing fires and ensuring the safety of all employees, subcontractors, clients, and visitors. We will comply with all applicable fire safety legislation, including the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and associated regulations.

Fire safety is everyone’s responsibility, and this policy sets out our approach to identifying and managing fire risks across all premises and project sites.

2. Fire Risk Assessment

Fixiz Ltd will ensure that:

  • A suitable and sufficient fire risk assessment is carried out for all premises and significant project sites
  • Risk assessments are reviewed regularly and whenever significant changes occur
  • Identified risks are eliminated or reduced to an acceptable level
  • The findings and any required actions are documented and communicated

3. Prevention of Fire

Steps will be taken to prevent fires from starting, including:

  • Maintaining good housekeeping and removing combustible waste regularly
  • Storing flammable materials safely and in appropriate quantities
  • Ensuring electrical equipment is properly maintained and PAT tested where required
  • Prohibiting the use of open flames without appropriate controls
  • Implementing hot works permits for any cutting, welding, or grinding activities

4. Fire Detection and Warning

  • Appropriate fire detection and alarm systems will be installed and maintained
  • Alarms will be tested regularly in accordance with manufacturer and regulatory requirements
  • Employees and subcontractors will be informed of how to raise the alarm in an emergency

5. Means of Escape

  • Clear and unobstructed escape routes will be maintained at all times
  • Emergency exit signs will be clearly visible and illuminated where required
  • Assembly points will be clearly identified and communicated to all persons on site

6. Fire Fighting Equipment

  • Appropriate fire extinguishers will be provided, correctly positioned, and maintained
  • Employees will be trained in the correct use of portable fire fighting equipment
  • Fire fighting equipment will be inspected and serviced annually by a competent person

7. Emergency Procedures

In the event of a fire:

  • Raise the alarm immediately
  • Evacuate the building or site promptly via the designated escape routes
  • Assemble at the designated assembly point
  • Call 999 if the fire brigade has not already been alerted
  • Do not re-enter the building or site until the all-clear is given by a competent person
  • Do not attempt to fight a fire that cannot be safely controlled

8. Training and Drills

  • All employees and subcontractors will receive fire safety induction training
  • Fire drills will be conducted at regular intervals
  • Training records will be maintained

9. Responsibilities

9.1 Director

  • Take overall responsibility for fire safety compliance
  • Ensure fire risk assessments are carried out and acted upon
  • Provide adequate resources for fire safety management

9.2 Managers and Supervisors

  • Implement fire prevention measures on-site
  • Ensure all persons on site are briefed on fire procedures
  • Conduct regular checks of fire safety equipment and escape routes

9.3 Employees and Subcontractors

  • Follow all fire safety procedures and instructions
  • Report fire hazards, defects, or concerns immediately
  • Never obstruct fire exits, extinguishers, or alarm call points

11. Review

This policy will be reviewed annually or following any fire incident, significant near-miss, or change in legislation.

NOTE: This policy should be read in conjunction with the company’s Health & Safety Policy, site-specific fire risk assessments, and emergency evacuation procedures. It must be communicated to all staff and contractors.
